Delaware Center for Distance Adult Learning, Inc.

This year, I was honored to receive the Adult Basic Education Teacher of the Year award at the recent DAACE Summit for my work over the past four years as ABE Coordinator/Teacher for the Delaware Center for Distance Adult Learning (DCDAL). How does an on-line teacher engage/motivate/guide/teach and empower beginning students to become successful learners who will realize their long-term goals of achieving a GED or diploma? It’s really not so different from a teacher in a traditional classroom.

We would like to give a very special thank you to everyone who contributed to the OAASIS/DCDAL 1st annual Thanksgiving food drive event. The purpose of this event was for staff and fellow students to reach out to their community and their peers.

Goodwill of Delaware and Delaware County recently awarded DCDAL with the annual Community Partner of the Year award.  The award goes to a community partner who embodies the mission and vision of Goodwill.  The relationship between DCDAL and Goodwill began in 2009 as a partnership to provide Goodwill team members and their families with opportunities to earn GED’s and high school diplomas.  DCDAL’s online format is very beneficial to Goodwill team members, as it allows them to balance work and family responsibilities while completing their education.  DCDAL and Goodwill look forward to continuing this successful partnership.

DCDAL would like to congratulate Alex Woolford on earning his Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Delaware Tech Wilmington/Stanton Campus.  Alex completed his GED in 2008 and immediately enrolled at Delaware Tech.  In addition to earning his degree, Alex was also recognized with the High Academic Award for the Criminal Justice Department.  Way to go, Alex!
